Yearly, Tiopa does several activities for the community

Pediatric medical week

Since 2009, Tiopa has hosted elementary school kids from all over Autlan for health themed games. Over 1,000 kids attend every year. The weeklong event teaches kids about how to take care of their bodies, the environment, and promotes health prevention. Tiopa works in collaboration with several organizations in Aultan to make pediatric medical week a success. They include the Red Cross, Protección Civil, Consejos Municipales de Salud, Centro Nueva Vida, Prevención del Delito, Agua Potable, JIRA (Junta Intermunicipal del medio ambiente para la gestión de la cuenca baja del Río Ayuquila), Instituto Municipal de la Mujer, and Patio Limpio.

Health Fairs

Tiopa celebrates its anniversary through community engagement and health promotion. For two days, Tiopa conducts a health fair for the entire community. Tiopa staff and community organizations provide health screenings in BMI, depression, anxiety, HIV/AIDS, diabetes, breast cancer, and prostate cancer. Participants learn about clean water, mosquito control, and sexual health. Dentistry provides free cleaning for these two days. And all Tiopa services are free! The health fair reaches about 200 community members.

Anniversary Dinner

Every November 20th, Tiopa staff and board of directors comes together to celebrate the clinic’s anniversary. The board of directors thank the staff for all of their hard work. The evening is full of good conversation and a time outside of the clinic to mingle with colleagues.

Christmas celebration

Tiopa celebrates Christmas with all of the children in the community each year. For children from low-income families, celebrating the holiday can be a stressful time and a burden on the family’s limited resources. Tiopa works to fill some of that gap and relief part of the stress. Children participate in games and clowns provide great entertainment. Dr. Martin speaks about the importance of community and spreads the holiday cheer. A small meal and presents close out the day. The whole community looks forward to the celebration as the year comes to an end.
